HERE'S WHAT I THINK: ESC Governing Board

Comment     Print

As a long-time member of Circleville Rotary, I value community service and appreciate my fellow Rotarians' dedication to giving of themselves to Pickaway County.

In a similar fashion, community members who choose to serve on school boards also give of themselves to the county.

The Pickaway County ESC is fortunate to have five such community members who dedicate their time and energy to the ESC's Governing Board.

The Governing Board is made up of Richard Everman and Byron Welch, who have been on our board since 2004; Jeanine McDowell and Pat Southward, who have been on the board since 2006; and Robert Bower, who joined in 2010.

Richard, Bob and Byron also serve on the board of education for Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center.

This group is committed to making Pickaway County ESC a valued and valuable contributor to our partners: Circleville City Schools, Logan Elm, Teays Valley and Westfall local schools, Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center, the Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Help Me Grow and the Family and Children First Council.

Being former educators or having worked in a school setting, board members take interest in the positive educational opportunities being offered by the county's districts. They are proud of the role the ESC plays in assisting the districts in this county.

They are interested in becoming better board members by participating in the PCESC / OSBA Board Leadership Academy and by attending the OSBA Capital Conference.

Each year, January is designated as School Board Recognition Month.

In this year's proclamation, Gov. John Kasich said, "The service provided by the members of Ohio's city, village, local and joint vocational boards of education and educational service centers' governing boards is critical to ensuring high quality public education for Ohio's schoolchildren. Through partnership with teachers, school administrators, staff and parents, school board members provide vital leadership and support for schools."

Our board members do all that, working well as a team for the benefit of our county.

Thank you, Governing Board members, for your dedication and service.
