CIRCLEVILLE - When it comes to picking up trash, no one does it better than Rumpke driver Terry Russell, who was named Driver of the Year by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA).
Russell, of Chillicothe, was selected for this prestigious honor for his commitment to safe driving. He has achieved 13 years without a single accident.
He and other top drivers from across the country were recognized last month at Waste Expo, a large industry trade show that occurred in New Orleans.
Russell drives a residential trash truck for Rumpke's Circleville operation and serves nearly 500 homes daily. He picks up trash for residents in Fairfield, Madison and Pickaway counties.
"Terry Russell makes safety and customer service his top priorities," said Andrew Rumpke, regional vice president, Rumpke. "He is an excellent member of the Rumpke team and a wonderful representative of our industry."
Each year, NWRA selects the safest and most outstanding drivers in the industry. Companies are placed in three categories based on the number of vehicles in their fleet. Rumpke is classified as a "Regional Carrier" with a fleet between 251 and 2,000.
For the fifth consecutive year, a Rumpke employee earned the Driver of the Year award.
Two other Rumpke drivers from central Ohio were in the running for the 2017 Driver of the Year honor.
Ed Greene of Williamsport was a finalist for the award. He drives a commercial trash truck and services businesses, schools, restaurants and offices in Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin and Licking counties. He has 23 years of safe driving for Rumpke. He makes nearly 800 stops weekly.
Joel Smith of Circleville performs residential trash collection for customers in Delaware, Licking, Madison and Pickaway counties. In July, he will celebrate 16 years with Rumpke.
