The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, invites the public for a free program to learn to detect the early signs of spring at Stage's Pond State Nature Preserve at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 25.

Stage's Pond State Nature Preserve features a combination of forest, field and wetlands. The approximately 2.5-mile hike will take visitors through open fields to look for early migrants and some early blooming field plants. We will stop at a blind overlooking a glacial relic pond and search for migrating waterfowl. Next, we will visit the edge of a hibiscus-lined pond to search for amphibians. From there we move through a forest looking for woodland wildflowers before finishing at another blind to search for waterfowl in a second pond.

Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather with waterproof footwear. Children are welcome to attend, but pets are not allowed in state nature preserves.

Stage's Pond State Nature Preserve is located in Pickaway County five miles north of Circleville. From U.S. Route 23, turn onto Hagerty Road and proceed 1.5 miles east. The preserve entrance is on the left. Participants should drive past the first small parking area to the large parking lot and meet there.
